Since the Scouts of the 1st Hainault Scout Group have been working together they have continued to be part of Scouting history. The Scout section has existed since Scouting began in 1907. Throughout the organisation there are about 100,000 Scouts that make up 6,600 Scout Troops. At the 1st Hainault Scout Troop, meetings are held for an hour and 45 minutes on a Friday night at The Stockade. For more information, click here to contact us.
The Troop is made up of young members who have moved up from the Cubs Packs or those who would have joined Scouting for the first time. They join the Scout Troops when they are 10 and half and stay till they are 14. By joining they are required to make their Promise and by making their Promise they become a Member of the Worldwide Movement. The Scout Promise is:
On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
to do my duty to God and to the Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.
As well as making this Promise, a Scout will also be expected to keep the Scout Law. The current Scout Law is based on the Laws of Baden and is a set of rules that Scouts should do their best to live their life by.
The Laws are:
A Scout is to be trusted.
A Scout is to be loyal.
A Scout is friendly and considerate.
A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
A Scout makes careful use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
Each Scout is encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities, when they meet it is not only a change for them to catch up with their mates, but they will also learn new skills and explore issues relevant to their age. They even get a say in what they want to do!
Uniform
The 1st Hainault Scout Troop’s uniform requirements will not only equip us with the appropriate clothing to participate in the activities planned; it will also make us look a lot smarter when we are out and about than the current mix. The uniform is therefore;
Scout Shirt
Navy Blue Activity Trousers
Leather Scout Association Belt
All Terrain / Activity Shoes
Scout Leather Woogle*
Group Scarf*
*(Provided by the Group)
These purchased from Hargreaves Scout Shop, online and possibly from school outfitters. Hargreaves is a short distance from the Stockade and is located on Hainault Road, Little Heath, Romford, RM6 5SR and is open on Friday evenings from 7.15pm to 9.30pm and Saturday afternoons from 2.15pm to 5.30pm. Websites such as www.scoutshops.co.uk and www.mwarrens.co.uk are also very good. Decent all terrain shoes can also be purchased at stores such as Sports Direct. The Group does not want any Scout to miss out due to financial reasons, so if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to us about them.
