The 1st Hainault Scout Group originates from two Groups in the Ilford NorthWest Scout District. It was formed on 28th May 2009 and incorporates both the leaders and the young Members of both the 5th and 16th Ilford North Scout Groups.

16th Ilford North

Formed by the current Group President Phil Wray, the 16th Ilford North Scout Group in Hainault is one of the youngest Scout Groups in the District. The group only celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2008.

When the Group was set up back in 1998, one of the main aims was for it to be co-educational. The 16th Ilford North Scout Group was groundbreaking as they were the first in the district to invest both boys and girls.

5th Ilford North

In comparison, the 5th Ilford North Scout Group has been operational since the 1930's, making it one of the oldest Groups in the District. In 1970, the Group moved to its own purpose built hall (the Stockade) in Hainault which parents and supporters helped to construct.

Today, the Stockade has become the HQ of the 1st Hainault and is used more than ever before providing Scouting to the young people of Hainault.
