Until January 2009, the 5th Ilford North and the 16th Ilford North Scout Groups were two independent Groups, the only thing that the two Groups had in common was their Group Scout Leader ("GSL").

After months of reviewing the options, it felt that the most appropriate way forward was to adopt a collaborative working arrangement with both Groups. While collaboration would involve both Groups to keeping their own identity it more importantly allowed them to play on each other's strengths. The aim of this working arrangement would assist, in the short term, sustainability of both Groups whilst allowing a strategic recruitment campaign to be run and managed by both Groups.

This idea was presented to the adult members of the Group in November of last year who supported this move. It was the GSL's aim at that time to have three sections working with their respective sections collaboratively. It was also the GSL's intention to have the Stockade (our headquarters) used on as many nights of the week for Scouting. After discussions with the adult members of the Group, this proposal (with a few amendments) was agreed. The two Groups then started working together in January 2009.

This Collaborative working arrangement was reviewed by the adult members of the Group who formally decided on a merger of both Groups. From this, the 1st Hainault Scout Group was born. The Group is sponsored by St. Francis of Assisi Church, Barkingside, with Father Andrew being the Group's chaplain.

We have already started our recruitment campaign and have successfully recruited a number of adults into various roles, making us the fast growing Group in the District. We have also started to refurbish the Stockade, the stores are now cleared and the cupboards have been re-organised.

The future of the Group looks to be an exciting one. We all hope that you are able to support us through this change and be part of the fastest growing and developing Scout Group in Hainault.
